Fishing in Berwickshire
We can sell fishing permits for the Whiteadder and through the family farm, we offer 3 rods on the River Tweed. These are at the Boathouse in Norham, only 5 miles from the hotel.
‘The Boathouse Fishing’ comprises of Gliddeyhaugh and Canny beats which are located above and below The Boathouse to Norham Bridge on the English bank.
The maximum number of rods allowed to fish at any one time is two on Canny and one on Gliddeyhaugh from Monday to Friday and two rods on Canny on Saturdays. The Gliddeyhaugh rod is NOT available on Saturdays.
The pools range from 6 to 25 feet, with mainly slow to medium movement depending upon the river height. The lower part is easily fished from the bank or by wading; the upper part is fishable only from the boat. The beats excel in low to very low water when many fish tend to congregate around Norham Bridge.
There is a long ‘glide’ in front of The Boathouse which is particularly good for spring salmon and is a popular summer sea trout lie.
The beats have been very lightly fished over recent years. The catch records for the upper Ladykirk beats (the opposite bank) give an indication of potential. It is officially recorded that Dr Fison landed a 51½lb salmon at The Boathouse Pool in October 1922!
The service of the ghillie Steve and a boat is available to all guests interested in fishing at the Boathouse (additional fees apply).
The river Whiteadder is two minutes’ walk from the Allanton Inn and offers splendid fishing for salmon, sea trout and brown trout also. We can offer guests special rates for fishing at Bluestone Ford Beat which is located on the Whiteadder (maximum 5 rods). Please contact us for further details.
