The river Whiteadder (season: February 1st - November 31st) is a mere two minutes' walk from the Allanton Inn and offers splendid fishing for salmon, sea trout and brown trout. Tickets for fishing are sold at the inn (£15 per day, £40 per week and £50 per season) on approximately five miles of the river.

The Whiteadder, which is becoming of increasing importance as a game fishing river, has a good run of fish in April and May and also in September to November. Additional information can be found at www.whiteadder.co.uk

Additionally, the famous beats on Lower Tweed (Horncliffe, Norham & Ladykirk etc) are only a few minutes' drive from Allanton. Detailed information on these beats and the availability and cost of fishing together with up to date reports of river conditions can be found at www.fishtweed.co.uk and www.saleandpartners.co.uk.

The river Till is similarly only a short drive away; details for fishing on this lovely river are also available on the fishtweed website mentioned above.

Should weather conditions be adverse for river fishing, great sport can be had at West Loch Coldingham (15 minutes from Allanton). This long established loch is stocked with very large and magnificent rainbow trout, sufficient to lift the spirits of any despondent salmon fisherman. Details are available at www.westlochhouseestate.co.uk.

We would strongly recommend that anyone wishing to fish in The Scottish Borders should look at www.tweedguide.com for invaluable guidance and advice.
