Allanton is a quiet village positioned on the raised southern bank of the River Whiteadder, at its confluence with the Blackadder. Located only 10 miles from Berwick-upon-Tweed (A1 & national rail station) and only five miles from the English Border.

  The Allanton Inn is in a central position in an area of the Borders which has many very splendid golf courses. The parkland courses at Coldstream (The Hirsel) and at Duns are only a short drive away. Eyemouth Golf course overlooking the North Sea is 15 minutes drive away; whereas the excellent course at the Duke of Roxburghe's home is a little further.

The course at Goswick (Berwick Golf Club), just south of Berwick upon Tweed, is a magnificent links course and a worthy challenge to the most experienced of players. This is a qualifying course for the British Open.
