Fresh back from our February break we are excited about the year ahead!  Lots going on for us this year, with both our sisters getting married and various friends having 40th birthday celebrations.  The boys had an absolute ball on our holiday in Egypt.  The weather wasn’t as good as last year but with so many activities and things to do it didn’t matter one bit.  William & I, therefore, found it quite easy to kick back and relax.

The Team 

Maia & Dave  had a great break skiing in Austria. The weather for them was pretty cold – strangely enough the Northern Lass that she is, Maia didn’t like it as much as Aussie Dave!  Leona sunbathed in her living room in Eyemouth and pretended she was somewhere hot.  Tomek, Joe & John all took a well earned break from the kitchen.  Diana spent a few weeks back in Latvia with her parents & sisters.  Kirsten is new to our team but as a Allanton girl born & bred, she has fitted in very quickly indeed.  We are delighted to welcome Tanya back from maternity leave and can’t believe that Ava has just turned 1!  Motherhood is suiting Tanya well.  Lauren & Jojo are studying hard in Aberdeen but will be back in the summer months. We are in the process of recruiting another Chef to join the kitchen to get us through the busy year ahead.  While we were closed we had our staff night out in Berwick! The full Berwick experience, Foxtons, Villa Spice, Brown Bear and ending in Bedrocks! Phew Bedrocks – never again!

What’s been happening?

While we were drinking Rose by the pool & beach in Egypt, some work has been done to smarten up the front of The Allanton Inn.  We now have smart new lighting, signage and painted windows and doors.  Two of our bedrooms were also given a make over and we are delighted with the improvements. Room bookings are looking good for the year so I’m sure the upgrades will be appreciated.

What’s on the menu?

With a sunny February behind us we are feeling Spring-like in the kitchen and looking to forward to the summer months with lighter food and wonderfully fresh seafood.  We are so hoping for a better summer this year so we can get the BBQ fired up again and hopefully do BBQ’s every week end.  Last year was such a disappointment with the weather – we only managed one event, our Rodeo BBQ, but boy it was a corker of a day  Maia is making some wonderful desserts & baking lots of tasty cakes.   

Coming up…………..

Mothering Sunday is the next event on the calendar.  We will be doing our usual Sunday roasts and complimentary fizz for all mum’s on Mother’s Day (I’m hoping for breakfast in bed myself!).  Following in quick succession is Easter, where I’m sure the Easter Bunny will pay a visit to The Allanton Inn again (or was it that James had just let all his hens have a day out in our garden).


The fishing season has started again.  We have permits to sell for Salmon & Brown Trout on the Whiteadder.  Fishing on the Tweed can be arranged subject to availability.
