After a family reunion in York back in October the Reynolds spent much of the season at home, keeping on top of everything and preparing for Christmas, which is always a busy time in the household. This year the family have welcomed a new nephew into the world, George Shanks (William is his Godfather). Eldest son Ben has been working hard preparing for his exams, raising funds for a volunteer trip in Tanzania in summer of next year and doing the odd shift in the kitchen. Hamish just falls in to place being Hamish, enjoying his sport and Xbox, as for mad Max, he has started learning the chanter and is preparing to start High School after the summer – 3 boys at High School at last!

The Team

Our staff Christmas party this year took us to Edinburgh for tapas, cocktails, karaoke and a lot of laughs! In the kitchen, Head Chef Lee is supported by William, Joey, George and Tomek who is back feeling a little better but waiting for an operation to get him back to normal! We have bid farewell to Katie, John, Denise and Jayne but we still have Tanya, Amy, Kirsten, Amie, Gemma and Charlotte.  Recently, we have welcomed Jenny, Annie and Sandra to the team. Hopefully we’ll soon we will have Fiona back from maternity leave too.

What’s been happening?

Well there has been much cold weather so far in 2018 and lots of snow which brought the country to a halt #beastfromtheeast (the most we’ve seen since our first winter at The Allanton Inn in 2010). However, we have still managed to celebrate in 2018 with our 3rd Burns Supper, Valentine’s Day & a full house on Mother’s Day.   At the end of last year, we were delighted to have a night away at The Scottish Thistle Awards in Edinburgh to receive an award for Regional finalist for Most Hospitable B&B.  We still strive to achieve excellent reviews on various booking sites and media forums and enjoy reading all the comments and feedback made.

What next?

Easter weekend is fast approaching on Aprils Fools day bringing oodles of chocolate swiftly followed by The Jim Clark Exhibition Weekend celebrating the local hero’s life and passion for racing.  Our annual Garden Party & Beer Festival in June will see our favourite bands performing – The Jammy Devils & Summerland as well as our usually BBQ’s & Hog Roast. We are looking forward to a day out in May at Ladies Day, Kelso Races with a few of our friends from the village.  We are also hosting another wedding here in the garden in June for a lovely, local couple.

What’s on the menu?

We continue to be passionate about locally sourced, fresh produce.  New products to our menus are Preston Farm Beetroot & Ayton Estates Charcuterie.  We are looking forward to this year’s first crop of Standhill Tomatoes in time for the Easter menu and plenty of seafood in the summer months.  Fingers crossed we get a hot summer after such a hard winter.
